Who We Are

Our Vision

The Episcopal Church of Australia is a community of Anglo-Catholic Christians grounded in the historic faith, doctrine, worship, and sacramental life of the Anglican tradition.

We seek to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to share God’s unconditional love with all people. Through worship, prayer, teaching, pastoral care, and the sacraments, we strive to make Christ’s presence known in our communities and beyond. We believe that all people are welcome in the love of God, and we seek to reflect that welcome in all that we do.

What Makes Us Different?

Our clergy and pastoral assistants serve voluntarily and receive no stipend or financial remuneration for their ministry. This enables us to develop ministries in places and circumstances that may otherwise be overlooked because they are not considered financially viable or sustainable within a purely business model of church life.

As a result, we are free to respond to genuine pastoral needs wherever they arise, whether in local communities, aged care facilities, hospitals, homes, or online ministries.

We value collaboration, prayerful discernment, and consensus in our decision-making. While we seek to journey together whenever possible, responsibility for the governance and direction of the Church ultimately rests with the Executive Management Committee, comprising clergy, lay ministers, and wardens.

Who We Are Not

We are not a cult, a clique, a special-interest religious society, or a museum preserving liturgical traditions for their own sake.

We are a living Christian community committed to worship, discipleship, service, and mission. Our faith is not confined to Sundays or special occasions. We believe that worship equips us for service, and that every Christian is called to participate in God’s mission in the world.

Geography does not limit our ministry. Whether through local outreach, aged care chaplaincy, pastoral visitation, online worship, or teaching ministries, we seek to bring Christ’s love to people wherever they may be found.

Each of our communities is served by canonically ordained Anglican clergy and experienced pastoral ministers who draw upon authorised Anglican liturgies and other theologically sound resources.

While our theology, worship, and sacramental life are central to who we are, they are not ends in themselves. We seek to be known not only for what we believe, but for how we live, serve, and care for others. As followers of Christ, we are committed to faithful worship, compassionate pastoral care, and active participation in God’s mission.

As we say every week at the conclusion of the Eucharist:

“Our worship is now ended. Our service now begins.”
