Parish Roots
Thomas is a son of the Anglican Diocese of Sydney. He and his family were long-time parishioners of St Alban’s, Epping, where he served as a server, Sunday School teacher, Parish Councillor and Parish Secretary.
Education and Ordination
Thomas attended the University of Sydney, where he gained a BA in History and English, followed by an MA in Ancient History. After being selected for ordination training, he read Theology through the Melbourne College of Divinity, now known as the University of Divinity, and completed a Master of Divinity. Following his ordination to the diaconate in 1988, he served in the Diocese of Bathurst for two years. During this period, he taught Church History and Ethics in the Certificate in Theology course and served on community and government committees focused on education and youth work.
Ministry, Teaching and Professional Work
On returning to Sydney, Thomas became an Honorary Assistant at St Mark’s, Granville, a role he held for the next 20 years. Alongside his ministry, he continued his professional development by completing a Master of Education in Guidance and Counselling at ACU, undertaking a year’s training in Psychodrama, and completing a Graduate Diploma in Education.
Thomas has worked extensively as a high school teacher in both the state and private sectors. He spent two years as Head of Humanities/Religious Education and School Chaplain at an independent Christian school before joining the NSW Department of Education. He has also presented papers at conferences in Australia and the United Kingdom.
Life and Interests
Thomas resides in Kings Langley, where he has lived for most of the past 30 years. His passions include:
- Church history
- Cooking, including formal training in Commercial Cooking and experience
running a catering business.
